Even if you have prepared a stunningly delicious dish, an accompaniment to that can definitely enhance the taste. Here are a few simple flavored butter recipes, which go well with almost everything; from breads, to grilled meat, to roasted veggies and potatoes.
To be honest, I hadn't planned on making this specifically. But day before yesterday when I had made अळू chi bhaji or Alu Chi Bhaji, I wasn't sure if the leaves would turn out to be edible. And after the sabji turning out to be absolutely delicious, I was glad I had not used 2 leaves so that I could try making अळू वडी (Alu Vadi / Alu fritters). Yesterday, one of my friends posted on facebook about the downpour in Mumbai and hence she made a typical maharashtrian dal-rice. That gave me a quick idea and an impulse to have that for dinner today along with अळू वडी which is a classic combination!
It's one of my childhood favourites!
I remember, when I was a kid, and my mom would make any sabjis that I didn't like much, she would always make this on the side too, just for me! It tastes amazing with simple ghee roti, or even with simple dal rice. A delicious preparation; with a lovely bite, juicy, tangy, sweet and a perfect garnish of a crunchy tempering! In spite of its bitter taste, I have always loved bitter gourd. Especially fried slices of bitter gourd with dal-rice. Absolutely delicious! And I have been trying to find a way to get Mitul to have it once a while too.
In one of the Kerala Recipe Books, I came across this recipe, and had to make it right away. The coconut and the onions definitely tone down the strong bitter taste of the gourd. And that trick worked perfectly with Mitul, as he loved this dish. Tastes amazing with simple curd rice and fish fry. Last year, during the peak of monsoon season, my husband and I spend the most amazing 10 days in Alapuzza, Kerala. And lucky us, our holiday happened during Onam.
We had heard a lot about Kerala cuisine, but never had had the chance to relish it. Our holiday gave us THE perfect opportunity to do so. A very simple, quick and delicious combination of flavours, without any need to hunt for any authentic ingredients!
Sweet, sour, spicy, tangy and crunchy! Goes great with chicken or sea food salad. A quick-fix with the most basic ingredients.
A lovely, tangy and spicy salad dressing. God bless the person who invented this delight!
I can't even find words to describe it. It is one of THE MOST perfect combination of flavours! Beautifully tangy, slightly spicy, amazingly herb-flavoured AND very healthy! It is a must must have for a pani puri feast! It can also be had as an digestif (normally an alcoholic drink that is had after a meal to aid in digestion, but here we'll make it an exception as it can't and shouldn’t be made with alcohol). Its the king of street food in India, and a must-try recipe. Delicious, delicious and ABSOLUTELY delicious!!!
I had this first at a friends place, and she had made it from a branded packet, which just had to be mixed with yogurt and mayo. Mitul and I loved it so much, that I looked for it in almost all the grocery stores, but couldn't find one for a long time. But amazingly, I found this recipe in one of the salad books that I have, and it tastes so much more better than the commercial one! If you like the commercial ranch dressing, then what better than to make it at home, without any preservatives or additives. A gorgeously simple and quick recipe. To make it and keep it low fat, all ingredients can be used which are low fat, and they are all available in the market. A simple and yummy dressing, that goes with all, salads, chicken, eggs and can be had as a dip for fries too. Definitely a must-have for any Indian Chaat preparations. It is also used to garnish Dahi Vada / Ragda Pattis / Dhoklas.
A delicious accompaniment which has gorgeous caramelized jaggery and date flavours with a slight hint of tangy tamarind. There are a lot of varieties of this recipe where, in some the ingredients are just mixed together, but this recipe is how my mom would make it, and it definitely tasted much much better. Boiling all the ingredients together, definitely gave it a more prominent, stronger flavour. A yummy accompaniment for any grilled meat.
Tastes delicious and creamy, just perfect to dip any grilled meat in and feast on. A quick and simple recipe. Potatoes, cooked in any form are one of Miutl's most favourite accompaniments.
Toss them, fry them, bake them or just steam them, anything to do with potatoes, and I probably won't even get a bite. Whenever there’s salad or grilled meat for dinner, I always make some or the other variations of potatoes. The best part about potatoes is that, whatever you do, or however you cook them, you can never go wrong with them. They taste delicious with absolutely any combination of spices and cooking ways. This is a simple and a quick recipe, with an absolutely gorgeous taste! Hope you like it as much as we do. This is one awesome recipe!
There is a fort on the outskirts of Pune which is called Sinhagad. It's right on the top of a mountain, and it's absolutely stunning during monsoon season! This is the time when all the villagers around that fort put up little stalls to serve freshly made, hot home cooked food. It is so delicious, and the ambience adds more to the experience! This is where I had first tasted this chutney, and ever since, has been one of my favourites. It can definitely be made in a modern kitchen using a blender, but the real taste and flavour is enhanced when it is ground on a stone grinder (similar to a mortar & pestle, but not in the shape of a bowl, instead a large flat stone as a base and an oval, sausage type stone to grind the ingredients into a paste). A definitely must-have with any chicken rassa / gravy. But be careful, raw garlic stalks are much stronger than garlic cloves. I can literally eat a bowlful of this, instead of having it as a dip.
Before I started working as a cabin crew, I had never had guacamole. Didn't even know how avocados looked like or tasted. Luckily my job exposed me to a lot of new and different places, restaurants and cuisines. This was one of my most favourite new finds! The first time I had it was at a small little Mexican take out in Washington. I walked back to the hotel with the food, and not exaggerating, went back to the take-out for more guacamole! The owner was more than happy and thrilled that someone from such a different culinary background loved something as simple as a traditional Mexican dip. I walked back with 4 extra tubs of the dip, and it has been my most favourite every since! A definite must-try. A delicious and a refreshing accompaniment.
Tastes best with almost anything! Sandwiches, parathas, chaat, biryanis and whatever else you would like to have it with. One of our all time favourites!!
One of our friends, Anu, who has always believed herself to be a mediocre cook, but whenever she invites us for a meal, we are astounded at her amazing abilities in the kitchen! I tasted this dish at her place for the first time. Before that, I had never imagined cooking potatoes and curd together! But what a mouth-watering and a satisfying dish this turned out to be! For the first time, I had more potatoes than Mitul did. I even took some from his pate! Amazingly creamy, soft and delicious recipe. Goes great with any salads, grilled meat or even eggs. A must try! Quick toss of any vegetables that you would like, and a refreshing sides or accompaniments are ready!
Love eating this with almost anything, just to break the monotony of the meal and add a little crunch to it. A yummy accompaniment for any grilled meat.
Tastes delicious and creamy, just perfect to dip any grilled meat in and feast on. A quick and simple recipe. I am a Maharashtrian, and for our breakfast, we normally would have simple poha, upma or sabudana khichdi.
As soon as I got married into a Gujarati family, I got to explore into their most delicious breakfast options! I have never had any fried food for breakfast before, but trust me, more than the main breakfast dishes, this accompaniment that came with it all lured me the most! A delicious dip made from yogurt and mint leaves. Works wonders as a dip for any and everything! very simple and a delicious recipe! There’s something so tasty about South Indian food, that even when you are very full, it makes you keep wanting for more.
Amazingly simple, fresh ingredients make such beautiful, delicious dishes! This is one of them. I have always had 3 - 4 extra servings of this chutney whenever at a South Indian restaurant, and always wondered how do they make it so delicious! The recipe couldn't be any simpler than this. A very quick recipe and absolutely heavenly! Any fruit based salads of dressings give a whole different flavour and crunch to the salad.
The rind or skin of any fruit holds its concentrated flavour and essence, and hence using it for a salad, gives it a very prominent flavour. A simple, quick recipe with all basic ingredients and an outstanding result! Pretty unimaginable to think of mixing mint and garlic together for a dressing right?
But trust me, one of the most delicious and quick salad dressing recipes! But because it has raw garlic, it would be almost impossible to have it for a meal at work or to be on the safer side, have it for a meal at home. My mum-in-law is an amazing cook. She can make anything delicious out of the simplest and least number of ingredients.
All the chutneys that she can whip up are absolutely delicious! This is the one that is permanently stocked up in the fridge. If any guests drop in at home, a quick fix of dhoklas and this chutney is a perfect snack! It also tastes very delicious if used for making sandwiches or even any parathas. This is a very simple and delicious recipe, and tastes very different from any typical coconut chutneys. Definitely give it a try! I really can't focus on this write up. Just the picture of this chutney makes me soo hungry for it!
My mom makes this THE BEST! It’s such a delicious accompaniment! Perfect for a hot summer day meal. Sour and crunchy raw mango, slightly strong and pungent grated onion, crunchy crushed peanuts, beautiful caramelized jaggery and a crunchy tempering, that just doesn’t let you stop feasting on it! A fantastic accompaniment for rotis or even simple dal rice. |
